DTN: Don't Trust the N**ger!

by David Haynes - America Context

Let's face it--this is what it's come to.  No one on the right dare say it out loud.  To enunciate it would be to admit something shameful, something flawed.  But, there is a tangible sense of racially-based fear and mistrust present with Tea Party activists that the Republicans have seized upon and seemingly seek to exacerbate.

DTN seems to be the message resonating throughout the right-wing blogosphere, the Tea Party rallies, conservative talk radio and certainly Fox News.  Early on, even when a great majority of Americans watched with pride as the first African-American rose to the highest office in the land, there seemed to be a concerted effort to thwart those positive feelings and stir the fear, mistrust and, in some cases, hatred still lingering in the minds of some white Americans.

Goldman Sachs Tells the World, "Go F**k Yourself!"

From BBC News

Gordon Brown has called for a "special investigation" into Goldman Sachs after reports that the bank is to pay £3.5bn in bonuses.

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show the Prime Minister described the situation as one of "moral bankruptcy".

His criticism follows allegations by the Securities and Exchange Commission in US that Goldman defrauded investors during the sub-prime housing crisis.

Goldman strongly rejected the claims as wrong "in fact and law".

New Financial Reform Bill Forces Banks to Clean Up Their Own Messes

by David Haynes - Common Sense America
We need to get straight on this financial reform bill before the back and forth really moves into full swing.  First, the bill does not represent another (or any other) taxpayer-funded bailouts for troubled banks.  Mitch McConnell has been decrying the bill as just "another bailout" for the big banks.  Well, at least so far, the legislation is no such thing.

The Good Old Days and the Tough New Days Ahead

By David Haynes - Common Sense America

There is an idea of America that permeates our politics, our media and, generally, our collective conscious. It is a romanticized notion based on the unprecedented economic growth the U.S. enjoyed for roughly two decades following the end of WWII. In broad strokes, this notion can be easily summarized as the "Leave It To Beaver" era. Dad worked a "job" that provided for a nice house, a car or two, good food on the table and all the new time-saving, life-improving products modern industry could produce. Mom stayed at home and took care of the kids instilling in them an array of good, old-fashioned, family values.

Obama Cancels National Day of Prayer but Prays with Muslims!!! Well, not really. Actually, not at all.

Read the whole story on the misinfo...
snopes.com: National Day of Prayer

Viral Misinformation on the Loose Again!!

I noticed the following "cut & paste" status update floating around on FB...
"Obama has decided that there will no longer be a "National Day of Prayer" held in May. He doesn't want to offend anybody. Where was his concern about offending Christians last January when he allowed the Muslims to hold a day of prayer on the capitol grounds. As a Christian American "I am offended." If you agree copy and paste this to your wall."

What's important to note is the Obama administration released in a statement the President's position regarding a Federal Judge's ruling that the prayer day was unconstitutional and it's the exact opposite of the FB claim.

Here's the truth:

Being an informed citizen and objecting to what your government does, means you actually should, at some point, BE INFORMED.  Just because they say it on the "internets" doesn't make it true!
